Not literally the end as the final Biggin Hill International Air Fair was in 2010 but as I didn't attend then 2009 was the end for me. I hadn't been for years and fortunately chose to go on the Saturday. Sunday apparently had traffic flow issues and the gates were eventaully closed. Additionally both the Vulcan and Lanc went tech on Sunday so I guess I was lucky. The only show I've been to where I couldn't find my car afterwards!
This was the inaugral display specifically in honour of the B-17 Sally B, held at Duxford on a perfect summer's day. This was not an airshow as such but an event with flying and other displays during the course of the day. It had a very relaxed atmosphere and was a refreshing change to the ususal hustle and bustle of a Duxford display. Possibly will not be annual event, we will have to wait and see.
The highlight of the show was the appearance of B-17 Liberty Belle on a European tour from America. With B-17 Pink Lady appearing for one of the final times before retiring we were looking forward to a 3 ship B-17 display. Sadly Sally B had ongoing engine problems and was grounded. Even more sad was the loss last year of Liberty Belle so we have to cherish her performance in 2008.
An extremely well attended show that we only just sneaked into before the gates were closed having queued for ages on the M11 and then parked on the forecourt of a light industrial unit!
Highlight of the show was a 16 Spitfire flypast and tail chase that was superb to watch and listen to. Glad we got to see it.
Final show of the year and unseasonally warm. Debut from the Meteor.
Norwegian Wings day at North Weald to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Norwegains arrival at the airfield in 1942. Attended by two Norwegain F-16s and the latest C-130J backed up by the Norwegian Historic Flight's Vampires and T-33. Not a flying display as such but a few flybys by attending aircraft and a good performance from the Kent Spitfire. A nice selection of aircraft parked up and a perfect sunny day with temperatures in the high 20s made for a grand day out.
